About the Author Doug McFarland before and after the campaign has been a law professor at Hamline University School of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota. While Few Are Chosen: A Campaign Memoir is his first book for the general public, he has published thousands of pages of legal books and articles in places ranging from Harvard Law Review to the local newspapers. His most successful book is Minnesota Civil Practice, with the fourth edition published in December, 2008. On the teaching side, thousands of students over the years have elected him Professor of the Year five times (once in each decade). Students appreciate a willingness to work hard, the organization of a wealth of material, and the ability to laugh at himself. Holding a law degree from New York University and a doctorate from the University of Minnesota, McFarland has also worked in a large Minneapolis law firm, been a visiting professor at two other law schools, and served as Administrative Assistant to Chief Justice Warren E. Burger at the Supreme Court of the United States. McFarland and wife Mary still live in Arden Hills, Minnesota, a suburb of St. Paul. She is recently retired. He’s still teaching and writing. Their four children are now grown and on their own, but they still share the house with their black Labrador retriever Duke. His email address is dmcfarland@hamline.edu.
